Game Hub Jam is the name of the game
At the core of Game Hub Scandinava lies the urge to explore new markets; an urge which during the last year alone has led to visits to both China and India. During our latest trip to China, we met with indienova; an indie game ecosystem that specifically focuses on creating a bridge between China and the rest of the world. The meeting inspired a cross-territorial game jam, which will explore the possibility of creating products that can be marketed towards both China and Scandinavia markets from the get-go.
The 16 participants will be game industry graduates and junior professionals from Sweden, China and Denmark who are part of our incubation environments and the indienova network. Once divided into teams, they are given a theme to follow by our Chinese partner
The goal is to create a product, which resonates across borders in both the Chinese and the Scandinavian markets.
Time and Place
The Game Hub Jam takes place in Viborg, Denmark, from June 12-18, 2017.
We are looking for 16 people to develop three or four prototypes based on the pitch provided by indienova. The teams from China will fly in on June 10 and arrive on the 11th.
The products produced during the jam should lay the foundation for one or two things: Either a collaboration between the game jam participants or an exchange of information regarding the different markets, thereby granting the Scandinavian participants an understanding of the Chinese market and vice versa. By the end of the week-long production jam, each team will be asked to deliver a working prototype of their game. The entry must be original, coded during the Game Hub Jam and be a finished, executable game. Each team may only present one game at the game jam.
How to Enter
Participants must be at least 18 years old and active within the games industry, either as new graduates or close to being graduates. The participants’ background can be both animation and programming or another relevant industry but it is important that they possess the skills necessary to produce original content during the jam.
Seats are limited and will be allocated by the different partners. The partners will each select four participants based on their applications and evaluate each applicant’s motivation, previous experience creating games, and technical skills. The participant who is invited to participate will join one of the final teams, which will be organized on the first day of the jam in order to accompany the different skill sets, thereby enabling all teams to be productive.
We are looking to put together teams of:
- 4 Artists from Arsenalet Game Incubation
- 4 Game Designers from The Game Incubator
- 4 Programmers from Game Hub Denmark
- 4 Artists or Programmers from indienova’s network
Participating is free. We expect you to bring your own equipment but if you are travelling from China, we can provide you with a working station.
We will provide you with:
- Food every day
- Drinks and snacks while you are here
- Flights (Chinese participants only)
- Workstation (Chinese participants only)
The Event Itself
The Game Hub Jam starts on June 12 and lasts until June 18. However, one’s arrival will be expected in the days leading up to the event.
- Chinese participants travel on June 10 and arrive on the 11th
- Scandinavian participants travel on June 11 and arrive the same day
MEETING SESSION: June 11, 17.00-18.30. Common dinner and meetup with the different participants.
INTRO SESSION: June 12, 11.15-13.00: indienova announces the game jam guidelines and the teams meet each other for the first time.
JAM SESSION: 11.00 on June 12 to 15:00 on June 18 (total: 6 days of jamming). Participants decide how long they want to work each day.
PITCH SESSION: June 18, 10.00-11.00. The different projects are pitched in front of a panel consisting of indienova and the different incubation managers.
- Chinese participants travel on June 18 and arrive on June 19.
- Scandinavian participants travel on June 18 and arrive the same day.
The application deadline is MAY 17.
